Hello blog and it's been a while. Yes I have been postponing this since my weekends have been violently fleeting. Whenever there is a prolonged period of absences between the posts, which is almost all of the time, I start to think that maybe my posts are grasps. Grasps of trying to contextualize the madness from past states of being.
Fast approaching AP exams and the faster plummeting egress of assignments have culminated into a somewhat destructive spiral in April. But I won't act like I wasn't already, or continue to fall down the rabbit hole regardless.
Besides my compulsive depop purchases, I have newly found myself to be come a “parade microinfluencer” (JOKE) To be honest I've wanted to be one of those parade bitches for the longest (I live in Williamsburg come on) and honestly it's great. With all of the free things they send me I have like a whole new underwear wardrobe. I am so content wearing a sustainable triangle bralette when the shade of earthy brown I am wearing is described as "Kombucha". They got me guys!!!! Please use my code emimarietaylor for 20%, and my sincerest apologies for shamelessly plugging on the blog.
I have not done a visual mixtape since the summer, which is absolutely wild since I am always in my silly little cycle of consuming media. So I have tons of things to share with you, Mainly films since I had covid in march and I was practically begging for an excuse to get a criterion subscription.
One final thing before we jump into it, it's the one year anniversary of the blog!!! The stars have cosmically aligned so that the post I have been putting off all month is finally becoming realized on the day of the blog's birth. One year! Thank you all for reading my psychotic ramblings.

The Elena Ferrante section of my bookshelf
I am not the same girl I was before reading Elena Ferrante. This woman and her words has probably forever changed the trajectory of my life and I cannot stress enough how seminal her text is to the being of feminine.

Frances Ha (2012) dir. Noah Baumbach
I wanted to hate this so bad. But I knew I would succumb to Baumbach since I always do. This movie didn’t feel very special during the majority of the runtime but as the film neared it’s end I found myself feeling that ache. So many good things here.

Charli XCX Crash era
Her sellout era is her prime Crash album of the year no skips love poppers

Angus Cloud and Chase Sui Wonders in Thom Browne FW 22 for Interview Magazine

Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast in Simone Rocha and Miu Miu at ACL 22

Hunger by Roxane Gay

Blue Velvet (1986) dir. David Lynch
Rewatched a classic Lynch featuring some of his favorites. By far his most accessible. Personally Twin Peaks is my all time favorite. Fire walk with me of course.

Caroline Polachek for Glamcult
If she has 0 fans I am dead.

Paris Is Burning (1990) dir. Jennie Livingston
This is the greatest documentary ever made and if you disagree you are simply wrong.

Alana Haim, Danielle Haim, and Este Haim for Wmag
Lowkey love Licorice Pizza……. Maybe it’s because of my undying love for the Haim sisters.

Eyes Wide Shut (1999) dir. Stanley Kubrick
Kubrick’s swan song is definitely his most misinterpreted and polarizing. I still haven’t grasped a fully fledged opinion on this but I can say it was one of the most fascinating things I’ve seen all year.
That’s it for now! Thank you for seeing and reading. Very scared for the things to come, but when am I not.
